I am thankful to get to be part of an amazing missions opportunity right here at Broadmoor UMC. Eleven years ago some faithful people of our community gathered together to bring to the Shreveport area a fair-trade Mission Marketplace. This is an amazing opportunity for people in our church and in our community to support underdeveloped nations fight poverty.
Shreveport churches are again joining efforts to put on a fair-trade Mission Marketplace November 2nd & 3rd, right here at Broadmoor UMC. Mission Marketplace is a faith-based, ecumenical event held each year usually the first weekend in November. The purpose of the marketplace is to help improve the lives of people all over the world by hosting a "market" where fair-trade and artisan items are sold.
A wide variety of unique, handmade items are sold at the market, including jewelry, baskets, toys, candles, home decor items, bath and body products, gift items, Christmas ornaments, scarves, clothing, purses, soup mixes, coffees, teas, chocolate and much more. All items sold are new, handcrafted and many are fair trade.
All proceeds go back to the mission to support underdeveloped nations fight poverty and give the artisans a chance to proudly sell their wares. Local non-profits and ministries also participate.
A preview event runs Friday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a $10 admission. There is no cost Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vendors may apply to sell items that benefit a ministry, non-profit organization, fair trade organization or other program. All products must be high quality and new.
Vendors must apply to participate in the Marketplace. Application forms are available on Facebook at Mission Marketplace – Shreveport / Bossier, at Broadmoor’s church office, or e-mail your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Fax completed form to 318-869-0576 or e-mail form to email@example.com. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 1, 2018.
