Festival de Noel 2016: Messiah | Sunday, November 27
Last year we began what became one of the highlights of the Advent season for the Broadmoor community! We are excited to announce our second annual Festival de Noël on Sunday, November 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Broadmoor UMC sanctuary. We will present one of the most iconic and recognizable works in the choral repertoire, Handel’s Messiah. This piece has become the most oft performed work by orchestras and choirs across the world and is a Christmas tradition for many. We hope you will join us and it will become a tradition for you and your family!
We will welcome four professional soloists from across the region that all have ties to the arts community here in Shreveport/Bossier. We are delighted to welcome Soprano, Twyla Robinson, back to Broadmoor. She is a force of epic proportions in high demand as a concert soloist and performer across the country and we are so privileged to have her join us for this concert. We also welcome back John Riesen and his new fiancé Gillian Cotter to Shreveport! John will be seen as Rodolfo in Shreveport Opera’s production of La Boheme early in November and many will remember Gillian in her role as Sister Helen Prejean in Shreveport Opera’s production of Dead Man Walking last spring. Rounding out the group will be the powerful baritone Andre Chiang. Andre, as well as John and Gillian, is an alumni of the Shreveport Opera Young Artist program. Andre’s voice has been described as big and ardent and I can personally attest that it is one of the finest baritone voices I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. Combine that incomparable talent with a heart of gold and you get Andre.
Members of the Shreveport Symphony will join these fine soloists and the Festival de Noël choir comprised of the Broadmoor UMC Chancel Choir, special advent guests and the Prísma Vocal Ensemble.
The mission of the Festival is to offer the highest quality musical experience to the Broadmoor/Shreveport community, free of charge. The high quality does not just apply to those on the stage. We want people attending this event to feel that we prepared a place just for them. We accomplish this by focusing on each aspect of their experience from the “parking lot to the pew.” This requires a large number of volunteers. We would like you to consider joining a volunteer team. For more information about volunteering please contact Nancy Beauvais, Festival de Noël chairperson. Save the date!
