Now more than ever, it's crucial that we step up and help heal our community. Perhaps the recent current events have forced you to think about your role in this healing process. If so, prayerfully consider joining our Kids Hope program! New mentors are needed for the 2016-2017 school year.
Broadmoor United Methodist is starting its tenth year with Arthur Circle. Volunteers are matched with one child, trained on ways to help him or her with reading, math, and social skills, and meet with the child one hour each week at the school.
Many of these children live below the poverty line and many have a family member who is incarcerated, abuses drugs, or engages in other illegal behaviors. Studies show that young children who are exposed to caring relationships that offer hope have a much better chance for success than their peers who are not given this opportunity. Won't you help us give hope to a precious child in dire need of it? There are no specific skills needed...just a willing spirit.
Kids Hope also is in need of prayer partners, teacher encouragers, Friday friends, substitute mentors, library helpers and Kids Hope Angels. Each of these volunteer opportunities are vital to our service to the Kids Hope program.
New this year we will be starting a Reading Club. We are hoping to sponsor 3 book clubs: one each for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Adult leaders guide a small group of accelerated readers through quality literature. Children engage in discussions about character development, author’s purpose, and vocabulary usage.
Kids Hope will have table sign-ups and volunteers to talk to you on Sunday, August 7. Please contact Kids Hope Director Jan Bookter at email@example.com if you are interested and if you have any questions!
