The Annual Conference of the Louisiana Conference of the UMC, themed Rooted and Grounded, runs from Wednesday to Saturday, June 8-11, when more than 1,000 United Methodists from throughout Louisiana will gather in the Gold Dome at Centenary College in Shreveport. All worship services and business sessions during Annual Conference are open to the public; find the full schedule online.
Our own Adam Philley, Director of Music Ministries, will serve as music director for all traditional worship services throughout Annual Conference! In addition, the Broadmoor UMC Chancel Choir will sing at the Celebration of Ministry Ordination & Commissioning Service on Friday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at First UMC in Shreveport, and the Carillon Ringers will play at the Service of Celebration and Hope on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. in the Centenary Gold Dome. This is a huge honor for Adam and our church, and we encourage you to show them support by attending these services. Plan to arrive early at the Friday evening service—seats fill quickly, and our choir will provide the pre-service music.
There are several persons near and dear to the heart of Broadmoor UMC who will be commissioned or ordained at Friday evening’s Celebration of Ministry Service. Hannah Henderson, Broadmoor member and former youth intern who recently graduated with a Master’s of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, will be commissioned as an elder and begin her journey as an Associate Pastor at St. Luke-Simpson UMC in Lake Charles. Leah Gaughan, Associate Pastor at Noel UMC and wife of our own Rev. Peter Gaughan, will also be commissioned as an elder. Colleen Bookter, Broadmoor member since childhood and daughter of Claude and Jan Bookter, will be ordained as an elder and continue to serve as an Associate Pastor at University UMC in Baton Rouge. Marissa Teauseau, former Associate Pastor of Broadmoor UMC, will be ordained as an elder and continue to serve as an Associate Pastor at First UMC in Alexandria.
Rev. Mike Slaughter, lead pastor of Ginghamsburg UMC in Ginghamsburg, Ohio, will be the featured preacher/speaker for Annual Conference. Slaughter is an early innovator of small group ministry and cyber ministry, and has written several acclaimed books. The public is invited and encouraged to attend a Worship Experience with Rev. Slaughter on Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m. in the Centenary Gold Dome. Slaughter’s call to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted will challenge attendees to wrestle with God’s call for their lives.
The majority of Annual Conference will be live-streamed, available at www.la-umc.org.
