Lenten Wednesdays at Broadmoor

Hungry for a deeper prayer life? Hungry for community? Hungry for some good eats?

Join us for Lenten Wednesdays at Broadmoor UMC. Beginning February 10, we will gather at 5:30 in Anderson Gym for a community meal and fellowship. Plates are $5 each, with a $20 family cap. This special meal will take place each Wednesday night through March 23.

After our community meal, choose from a variety of groups and classes that will meet at 6:00:

You can’t get to the heart of anything if you don’t begin the journey. Ash Wednesday is a time when we begin the journey toward Jerusalem with Jesus in the season of Lent. Receive the gift of ashes at noon in the chapel and 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. The ashes serve as a reminder of our mortality as well as an outward sign that we mourn our sinfulness and the brokenness of the world.

For Children (grades 1-5):

Creative Prayer for Kids
We all learn in different ways, and praying is no different. What feels right to one person may not make sense to another. During this 7-week study, children in grades 1-5 will go beyond the “God Is Good” and “Now I lay me down to sleep” repetitive prayers and explore different ways to bring their cares and concerns to God. Each week will bring a new prayer practice: the Five Finger Prayer, Prayer Beads, Lectio Divina, Prayer Journaling, the Labyrinth and Praying in Color. Join us upstairs in The Garden from 6:00-7:00 beginning February 10 for this innovative Lenten adventure. Supply fee is $15. Sign up and pay online!

for youth (grades 6-12):

Wednesday Night Small Groups
Wednesday nights offer awesome opportunities for discussion in small groups! In our Wednesday night small groups we talk about real and relevant topics to you and your life.  Every 6 weeks students will be presented with new small group options and are encouraged to sign up for the group they feel best fits their spiritual journey. A new small group rotation will begin on Wednesday, February 24, but any youth are welcome to join us any time. Groups meet in the church basement.

for adults

Writing to God: 40 Days of Praying with your Pen
Join Nancy Beauvais on Wednesday evenings from 6-7 in the Parlor beginning February 3 for Writing to God: 40 Days of Praying with your Pen, a Lenten study offering forty insightful days of prayer and personal reflection. With poems and thoughts to prompt your own prayers, this study will inspire you when you feel dry, help you voice your deepest complaints and greatest joys, and surprise you with fresh perspectives on God. Cost $20; Book provided. Sign up and pay online!

Creative Prayer for Adults with Rev. Peter Gaughan
While our children learn about the different prayer practices in Creative Prayer for Kids (see above), parents and adults are invited to do the same thing! We will be supporting and expanding on the practices the children of our church are learning. Each week Rev. Peter Gaughan will lead this exploration into prayer as it relates to faith, words, art, movement, life, and silence. This Lent, let us do as the children and explore prayer in fun and new ways.

Worship Reflections with Adam Philley
Join Adam Philley, Director of Music Ministries, from 6:00-6:30 as we learn how to open our hearts and minds to a deeper, more meaningful worship. Come and learn how worship, both ancient and modern, challenges us to live a life that constantly glorifies and worships a loving and merciful God. You are welcome to attend Chancel Choir practice following this class, but involvement with choir is not required to attend the class! This class will attend the Ash Wednesday service on February 10 and begin formally meeting on February 17.

There will be nursery offered for infants through Kindergarten.
